Mikaela Rice DeCortin represents owners, general contractors, and subcontractors on private projects, and general contractors and subcontractors on public projects through every phase of the construction process. She has extensive experience in state and federal court pursuing mechanic’s lien and bond claims, preparing bid protests, analyzing scope disputes, and working closely with experts on delay and defective work claims. Ms. DeCortin regularly counsels clients on best practices to avoid litigation and minimize risk, including compliance with statutes like the Massachusetts Prompt Payment Act (M.G.L. c. 149, § 29E), to resolve, or better yet, avoid,  disputes.

Ms. DeCortin is actively engaged in the Boston legal community. She is a member of the Boston Bar Association, where she has taken on multiple leadership roles. Ms. DeCortin previously served on the BBA’s Networking and Social Events Committee and currently serves as Co-Chair of the New Lawyers Forum, helping to lead programming focused on professional development, mentorship, and engagement among early-career attorneys. Ms. DeCortin is also a member of the Associated Subcontractors of Massachusetts Young Professionals Group, in support of her ongoing commitment to the construction community.

Ms. DeCortin is a 2020 graduate of Boston College Law School. During her time there, Ms. DeCortin worked for a prominent civil litigation firm in the Greater Boston area and served as a Student Practitioner with the Administrative Law Division of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. She was selected as a peer coach for Boston College Law School’s Academic Success Program, where she supported first-year students with academic development and learning strategies.

A Connecticut native, Ms. DeCortin received her undergraduate degree in Environmental Geoscience from Boston College. She was a three-time recipient of the Undergraduate Research Fellowship and earned departmental honors for her work on groundwater quality. As a proud Double Eagle, Ms. DeCortin remains active in both the Boston College undergraduate and law alumni communities. Outside of the office, Mikaela can be found with a good book, exercising, testing her trivia skills during Jeopardy, or working her way through Boston’s newest restaurants.
